A foreign national may not study in Canada unless he/she is
in possession of a study permit. It should be noted, however,
that if the course or study program lasts for six (6) months or
less, a study permit is not required.
In 2004 , approxiamately more than 70,000 foreign students
came to Canada. To study in Canada , following are some
important guidelines to be followed:-
a) Letter of acceptance from the canadian institution;
b) Certificates of last study(course) ;
c) Adequate funds to meet expenses while in Canada;
d) Ability to communicate in english/french;
These are not all requirements that visa officer
assesses while granting visa.
Working on Campus
You may work on campus at the institution where
you study without a work permit if:-
you are engaged in full-time studies at a Canadian
universit y, a community college, a CEGEP, a publicly funded
trade or technical school or a private institution authorized by
provincial statute to confer degrees; and you have a valid study
permit.
New rules for international stduents
In april 2005 , Canada Immigration allowed students to
work off-campus in selected cities ;
Secondly, foreign students studying at post-secondary
institutions can trasfer between courses without applying for
new study permit;
As of May 16, 2005, international students who meet the
eligibility criteria for a second year of post-graduation employment
will be issued a two-year work permit.
